Miniature American Shepherds of Canada (MASCAN) is the official breed club for Miniature American Shepherds in Canada, serving as a point of communication and information for owners and enthusiasts of the breed.

Miniature American Shepherds first received AKC recognition in 2012 - prior to this, they were known as 'Miniature Australian Shepherds'. MASCAN was formed in 2014 by a group of Miniature American Shepherd breeders who were (and are) strongly committed to the development of the breed on Canadian soil. Thanks to the great efforts of these individuals and the members of the board who followed, the breed is now fully recognized in Canada.

Our Aims:
-To help provide information, support and encouragement to members to protect the health, type, temperament and instinct of Miniature American Shepherds ('MAS') to the Standard set by their country of origin and within CKC guidelines.
- To safeguard the welfare of the breed.
- To encourage and promote activities and sportsmanlike behaviour in the training, exhibition and competition of dogs in all working disciplines and show venues.
- To conduct any canine event for which the club is eligible.
- To support an agreed Code of Ethics.

Significant Dates for MAS in Canada:
- July.1, 2018: MAS became eligible to compete as a Listed Breed in Group 7 (Herding) with the Canadian Kennel Club
- December 2022: MAS received enough votes to gain full recognition for the breed in Canada
- January 2025: The Miniature American Shepherd was finally approved by Agriculture Canada under the Animal Pedigree Act
